Großdeutschland Infantry assault award document.

Awarded to Fusilier Rolf Pink of 1ST kompanie Fusilier regiment Großdeutschland, 22nd January 1944.

The document although well used and carried is signed by Horst Niemack who a few months after signing this award was seriously wounded.

August 24th, 1944, he was seriously wounded in his lead SPW in Lilausee near Doblen. He was put onto a Direct flight from the main first aid station to Berlin.

Professor Sauerbruch avoided the amputation of the left arm in an operation lasting several hours.

 

Horst Niemack (10 March 1909 – 7 April 1992) was a German general during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords.

Niemack later took command of the Panzer Lehr Division on 10 January 1945, succeeding General Fritz Bayerlein.
